  • Dawn had picked this 1.2 mile long Spruce Mountain trail off the GSMNP trail map. A 2.4 mile round trip seemed just perfect. Little did we know that it was 1 mile of uphill, 80 stories uphill, oh my! We didn't think we'd ever get to the top.
  • Getting started up the trail. The road to the trail just opened on May 11th. It didn't seem like anyone had been on the trail for a real long time, cool!
  • Flower
  • Big leaf
  • Tree with warts
  • Still going uphill
  • Cool switch back, going uphill
  • Nice views
  • I do believe this is bear poop. There seemed to be quite a bit of it on the trail. When I put my finger in it, it was still warm. Just kidding, it wasn't warm...
  • Top of the trail, one mile later, over 5500 feet above sea level. Take deep breaths.
  • The rest of the trail is closed, Spruce Mt trail is only open to campsite #42.
  • Trail to campsite #42.
  • More tree warts?
  • Campsite #42. Rule #1, when back country camping, pack out your trash, no one else will.
  • On the way down, another 80 stories.
  • Tall grass.
  • We were starving until we made our way back to Cherokee for some grub. We stopped at the first place we came to, the Little Princess Buffet. We should have kept looking.
